Here is our Big Ear simulator recreating the theoretical flux curve for a field containing many weak radio sources (< 0.8 Jy). The theoretical curve (black line) matches the observed data (green dots) remarkably well. We can apply the same procedure to the entire Big Ear continuum dataset to improve the retrieval of new signals. The animation also helps illustrate how the Big Ear operated, combining the signals from its two beams (red and blue) by subtraction to produce the final output (black line). Credit: Arecibo Wow!
