Latest List of Potential Habitable Exoplanets and Exomoons

Post date: Sep 30, 2011 4:4:42 PM

We finally identified potential habitable exoplanets and exomoons from three catalogs. This was the first step in the construction of our Habitable Exoplanets Catalog (HEC). No exomoons have been detected yet but their presence are expected from planetary dynamics. Here we just included the raw HEC software analysis output with some statistics (Table 1-3), and there are some interesting results. Next step is to analyze the merits of each individual object including error analysis. More details with new analysis and visualizations will come later. The list serves as a working guide for further analysis, modeling, and follow up observations. So far, the analysis suggests the presence of up to 16 potential habitable exoplanets and 35 habitable exomoons on the current exoplanets databases. Check the plot of this link for a previous view of all confirmed and candidate exoplanets.

Table 1. HEC statistics from the Extrasolar Planets Encyclopaedia. The table list potential habitable exoplanets and exomoons including name, mass (M), radius (R), period (P), distance from the star (d), equilibrium temperature (Teff), and habitable zone distance (HZD). The exomoons period and distance corresponds to the parent planet, and the names are the planets names with an appended "m." A Solar System mass-radius relationships was used when mass or radius was not available. Earth units (EU) were used for mass and radius.
