Gliese 581 d

DRAFT - Placeholder for future description of individual planet.

General Description

Gliese 581 d is a superterran exoplanet in the constellation Libra 20.3 light years away. It is the third planet of a four planet stellar system around the red dwarf star Gliese 581.

Habitability

The orbit of Gliese 581 d is within the habitable zone of the star but very close to the outer edge thus probably a cold planet. It is only habitable if it has a heat-trapping dense atmosphere to warm its surface, something expected for a superterran planet. A dense atmosphere or global ocean is also necessary to distribute heat if tidally locked.

Location

Libra Constellation [Coordinates (J2000) RA: 15h 19m 26.8250s  DEC: -07° 43' 20.209''] @ 20.3 light years
